ZUMBA YOUR WAY TO FITNESS, by Elise Dyck, Reporter with the Gleaner (Huntingdon, Quebec) Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Rays of golden late evening sunlight streamed into the Saint-Anicet municipal hall last Wednesday night as a group danced and sweated along to the Latin music booming from the stereo.

Zumba is a fitness class that combines the workout of aerobics with the steps, music, and moves of Latin dance. Started in Miami, Florida in 1999, Zumba has spread to over 40 countries.

Local Zumba instructor Heather Diodati says that she was hooked on Zumba the moment she stumbled across its website. Diodati has been offering classes in Saint-Anicet and Huntingdon since late 2008. Diodati says that Zumba is "just like a party atmosphere." Diodati says Zumba is accessible to a large cross-section of people because the intensity can be varied and because there are no verbal cues used during the class.

Participants looked like they were genuinely having fun as they danced away last Wednesday evening. Between stepping and clapping, there was laughter and smiles.

For participant, Heidi Buijs "time passes so fast. You're soaking wet, but you don't realize that the hour's over already." The other participants standing around Buijs all laughed and agreed: Zumba, they say, is fun, but also a true workout.

Chantal Hart says that she enjoys Zumba because it's "like you do exercise, but you don't know it; time passes fast." Marie-Josee Bernier agrees: "you don't feel like you're doing exercise. You're joking around. You don't have to be perfect, you just do your best."

There will be a thirty-minute demonstration of Zumba at the summer festival in Saint-Anicet on Saturday, July 18, from noon to 12:30 p.m. More information on Zumba can be found by contacting zumba@whimsies-online.com or by visiting www.zumba.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ZUMBA avec/with Heather Launches Zumba® Fitness Party!
Saint-Anicet is introduced to the Latin-dance inspired phenomenon that is sweeping the world into fitness!

(August 4, 2008 Saint-Anicet, Quebec) – ZUMBA avec/with Heather is blending party fun with fitness by launching Zumba® classes!

Heather Diodati, certified Zumba Fitness instructor, introduced Zumba Fitness on Saturday, July 19th 2008 to the attendees of Saint-Anicet's annual "Festival du Mais" with a half hour demonstration of Latin rhythm styles, in the Zumba Fitness format, such as salsa, merengue, cha cha, belly dancing and finishing with a fun salsa/hip hop.

Also, a contest was held to win a Zumba t-shirt imprinted with the winner's first name. Congratulations to the winner, Mrs. Louise Contant of Laval, who attended the festival and is a weekend regular at one of the local campgrounds.

Diane Miron of Chateauguay said, "It's so much fun, it’s a great workout and you don’t even realize how hard you're working."

Heather Diodati said she wanted to bring something new to the area. "No one was holding Zumba Fitness classes here, and where they were held they were very popular." "You move your body to the music," Diodati said "and the music is so exciting and infectious it creates a fun atmosphere. It's dancing, it's aerobics and it's a great workout; you don't need to even know how to dance at all and the moves are very easy to learn."

Zumba eliminates the "work" from "working out" by combining amazing, irresistible Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves, using its unique interval training format to help participants get fit in a party-like environment. Zumba combines dance and fitness moves for cardiovascular health, toning and strength building. Interested parties can read more about the Zumba Fitness phenomenon by checking out the Zumba website at http://www.zumba.com.

Zumba has been taking the world by storm, and is now in Saint-Anicet, Quebec and surrounding areas. Everyone is invited, from teens to seniors, and both women and men. Zumba avec/with Heather will be hosting classes on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 7 to 8 p.m. starting September 10th 2008 at Saint-Anicet's Community Center just off the town's City Hall at 335 avenue Jules-Leger, Saint-Anicet, with the first class offered free of charge.
