Ten Good Reasons to Learn to Dance! (thanks to http://www.colleenmurray.com)
Dancing Is Fun
Dancing is an enjoyable pastime for millions of people around the world.
Where there is music, you'll find people's feet tapping along, itching to get
out there and dance! There is a dance for almost every occasion, weddings,
parties, formal balls etc. Don't miss out on the opportunity to have fun and
meet new people.
Building Self Confidence
A competent dancer learns to carry themselves well. Dancing builds self
esteem in both children and adults which is vital for any social or business
situation. Dancing also improves your posture and carriage.
Meeting New People
While you are unlikely to find the love of your life (though some have!) you
will get an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
Keeping Fit
Recommended by leading heart specialists as a great way to stay in shape,
dancing is a physical activity that gets the heart pumping and the blood flowing
without putting too much stress on the body. It is also the most enjoyable and
social way of getting and staying fit.
Broaden Social Opportunities
A man who is a competent dancer will be in great demand at any function.
Being able to competently dance a lady around the floor is an important tool in
a man's social and business life. Even the British Army made it compulsory for
all officers to learn to dance so that none will be "embarrassed
socially", and the All Blacks take dance lessons to improve their skills
for their many social engagements. For any woman, skill on a dance floor will
make her stand out and be noticed.
Learning To Dance For Weddings And Other Formal Events
Getting married? School Formal? University Ball? Can't dance? Stand in the
corner at a dance? Does your partner itch to be on the floor while you want to
avoid it as much as possible? There are so many occasions where dancing forms an
important part of the evening, so why not learn to dance now and you will be
able to carry off the event with skilful self- assurance.
Improving Co-ordination Skills
Dancing is great for improving timing and co-ordination skills, as well as
footwork. It's excellent training for all those who play sports that involve
these three things.
Competitive Dance Sport
Many people dance competitively for sport. New Zealand dancers (many of them
coached by Colleen) regularly compete in competitions in Christchurch,
throughout the country, and overseas. Spectators are very welcome at these
events.
Dancing Makes an Excellent Hobby or Pastime
Some people don't want to dance competitively at all, still they enjoy
dancing for it's own sake. For those people there are still advanced Latin,
Ballroom and New Vogue classes that will take them beyond the simple first steps
learned in beginners classes to advanced routines and technique.
Dancing Encourages Children To Develop Self Discipline
Dancing is great for children's fitness and self-esteem, and one of things
that Colleen enjoys the most is teaching them. As well as self confidence and
self discipline, children learn vital social interaction skills.
