Eight Quick Steps to Making the Perfect Dress

from http://www.dancescape.com

It's one thing to be romanced by the rhinestones, but knowing how to combine the various shapes, styles and sizes of rhinestones is something else! No need to stress though because in eight quick and easy steps, DanceScape is teaching you all of the things that you need to know to create the PERFECT dress!

1. Decorate your dress from the inside-out. When decorating your fabric with Swarovski Stones, try bringing the mood, feeling, or expression of yourself into your costume. This might involve experimenting with various colours, sizes and shapes of stones to determine which combination will flatter the way that you express yourself while you dance. It may take some time and deep- thinking, but listen to your insides, be the creative individual you are and create that perfect outer-match to the true you!

2. Use colour to enhance your expression. We all have our favourite colours, but sometimes our favourite colour may not suit the expression we are going for. For a soft expression, try TRANSMISSION stones, they will shine their best on pastel fabrics. For a bold look, consider SS16 and SS20 deep colours and pair them up with their matching AB colour. Try Siam with Siam AB and add a great stone like the fabulous Fire Opal - the colour that screams "WOW"! For that secretly sexy look, try some of CHRISANNE’s more passionate or confident colours, like Blue Zircon, Tanzanite and the HOT Volcano. To add that subtle, yet powerful sexiness, be sure to combine them with a few larger sew- on stones and some AB or EFFECT stones. For this look, you may also want to add some of CHRISANNE’s EXCLUSIVE EFFECT STONES.

3. Accentuate your figure and movement with the stones. To enhance your dance figure while you dance, use CHRISANNE EFFECT or AB CRYSTALS in SS16 and SS20 to capture and reflect light in all directions. Place the smaller AB or EFFECT stones in between some bigger and more uniquely shaped Swarovski stones. But the secret is, to place these stones on the areas of the body that make the female body the beautiful piece of work that it is. Place these combinations along the collar, bust or hip area to create a very dramatic or sexy look that accentuates the body while you dance.

4. Make sure you glue AND sew your large sew-on stones! The larger Swarovski stones are now available in a wonderful variety of shapes and colours, and they can really add a great look to your stone design on your dress. But be sure to remember that these stones will stick the best if you glue AND sew them.

5. Gluing with a Toothpick. Use a toothpick to apply small amounts of CHRISANNE glue to your Swarovski stones and then apply to the dress. This will keep your job clean and hassle-free. If you are an expert at gluing, some professional dancers actually apply glue to the back of the stone with the toothpick and then use the toothpick to apply it to the dress. This may seem a bit challenging to begin with, but after lots of practice and experience, this trick might become your favourite method.

6. Be Careful with your Fabric. The fine-net mesh fabrics are some of our favourites, but its important to pay attention to how we work with them. Place these fabrics on a flat and protected surface for gluing as the glue will seep through the fine-nets and potentially damage the surface you are working on. Sound like Common Sense? Ok, then we are sure you will remember to separate layers of your fabric while gluing. Treat your fabric as if it were about to be ironed - one section and one layer at a time, otherwise, the glue will seep through those fine-nets again and attach itself to the rest of the fabric.

7. Give Your Dress Enough Drying Time. For all of us busy bees and especially those of us who love waiting until the last-minute to do things, one thing we definitely need to make time for is drying time. Allowing 3-5 hours is not enough time to let the stones dry or set into your fabric and begin practicing in your dress. Give yourself 24-48 hours drying time before practicing or performing in your dress.

8. For the perfect finish - think SHOES! Now how about completing the look by continuing the design onto your shoes! Swarovski Crystals can always be added especially to satin shoes and of course Supadance’s white satin Shoes can also be dyed to colour match to your dress!
